A special program for a beautiful Russian form of art! Storytelling and a hands-on painting workshop with artist Marina Ekelova.
The workshop is a very fun, lively, creative and relaxed experience, which can be enjoyed by children and adults alike, regardless of their artistic skills. The classic Russian Matryoshka is a set of wooden dolls of the same shape but different sizes which are placed one inside another. The artist will show you the traditional Matryoshka decoration, which you can either copy or take inspiration from to create your own unique design.
Presenter Marina Ekelova is a Russian artist and lecturer with more than 25 years of experience. Having graduated one of Russia’s most prestigious art academies, Mukhina Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Peterburg, she is well-versed in a variety of Russian traditional arts, history, and Russian culture. She has held multiple workshops with the RISD museum and university, as well as universities and community centers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Marina has a distinctive ability to generate energy and enthusiasm in the audience and to bring the rich fabric of traditional Russian art to life for children.
