Perimenopause and Menopause: What is it, how will I know if I'm in it, and what can I do about it?
Menopause is having a much needed cultural moment. After a 2002 study effectively halted all prescribing of hormone therapy, women have been suffering unnecessarily and largely in silence, their menopausal concerns being minimized or ignored entirely. We are now finally rising up out of the rubble of this decades long embargo on menopause medicine and hormone therapy, but the information out there is boundless and confusing to say the least. Frenetic, urgent, and at times catastrophic declarations about your health in midlife abound on social media, and it's hard to know where to turn. Join us for the answers.

Presenter Bio:
Erin Kunkel, MD is a gynecologist and menopause specialist who works at Direct Doctors, direct care practice in East Greenwich, RI. She received a BA in Theater from Middlebury College, completed her premedical postbaccalaureate training at Columbia University, received her medical degree from Brown University, and completed a residency in OBGYN at Pennsylvania Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She returned to RI after residency and spent 7.5 years practicing as a board-certified general OBGYN. Throughout her time in that practice, she fell in love with working with women in midlife, supporting them through the unique challenges posed by the late reproductive years, perimenopause, and through to postmenopause. To better support these women, she completed a professional training certification in Women’s Integrative and Functional Medicine, became a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP), and attained board certification in Obesity Medicine (DABOM). Her areas of expertise include general gynecology, PCOS, abnormal uterine bleeding, perimenopause and menopause, and weight management. When not working, she can be found exploring new parks and hikes with her husband and daughter, browsing plant nurseries with aspirational garden visions in mind, cooking, or just drinking coffee with a good book or a good friend.
